Music for the trip

Out of no where today I decided that I wanted to clean out my cd case and downsize because that would take up alot of room when it comes time to packing. Nicole and I began to do that at around 4pm, it's now 6:10pm and we're almost done!

I have to say, throwing stuff out for me is a bit of a challenge, I have to let go of something from the past. This time, it was pretty easy. I threw out over 100 cds!!

While going through them all we danced and song to throw backs (for us anyway); Disney, The Click Five, No Secrets, and the best one....Aaron Carter! Yea, life sure is a party.

Nicole and I have been thinking about making cd's for the trip for a while now, but we didn't know of what. Well looking at all the cd's and mixed cd's from over the years, I think we're pretty set on our playlist...even though we probably will make a cd dedicated just to Michael Jackson music :p

The aritist I can guarentee that we will bbe blasting and dancing out to (well me air drumming and Nicole laughing at me) is DJ AM.... If you never heard of him, GET ON YOUTUBE NOW :p

If you guys have any suggestions of songs or artists good for driving let us know please!!

Car + School + Job = Living life according to Us

CAR:

Our original plan was to take Nicole's father's Toyota Prius for our road trip, but last night, Nicole, her car insurance and license all ran into some issues. Now she doesn't have the Prius to drive. That means we are left car less for right now. But shouldn't be for long. Monday she'll be getting everything fixed, so hopefully when she tells her father about going on a road trip this summer, he allow her to take it. If not, Plan B here we come.

Plan B dealt with Nicole's friend Corey. He has many cars so why not ask him if we can borrow one. Well, we won't find out if we can or not till next week because he is deciding to join the army. So when hes gone to boot camp, his cars will be sitting there unused....perfect timing for us to borrow one :). Well if plan A and plan B don't fall through...ummm....help?

School:

Since I'll be moving in with Jamie in Arizona, I have to find a new school to attend, because i want at least an Associates Degree. I've been attending Marist College this semester, and have no problem transferring out. So with searching for colleges came a thought in my head. I want to go for radio broadcasting, but in reality, the industry just cut off half their works and are now using prerecorded shows for time slots. By the time I graduate, there won't be a need for a DJ, so why not try something there are jobs for, and something I'm told I would do well in.

After talking to Nicole and Jamie about it, I set my mind. Radio broadcasting can only go so far as being a hobby. I should major in child development and early childhood education. Time to search for those schools.

But during the conversation with Nicole about future careers, she started double thinking what she wants to do. At first, it was film, than become a cop. But she also realized, she couldn't make a life long career out of those. Since she loves kids, she decided she would do the same as me and go for child development/early education. Also, from the previous night, with the whole car issue, she felt it was time to live how she wants to live; move out of the nest, away from her parents wings, and learn and live on her own. With that thought came something that put a huge grin on my face. It's no longer just a summer trip for her, but a life long trip as well! I'll have my 2 best friends, Jamie and Nicole, close to me! Nicole and I also thought it would be cool, since we're going to major in the same thing, to attend the same school. We both hate classrooms. I just fall asleep in one the moment I sit down and Nicole just basically hates them. We decided that searching for an online school is best for us.

Let the searching and applying begin!

Job:

Living on your own means paying your own way through life. No more Mommy and Daddy's credit card being swiped for the clothes on your back and food on the table. Since Nicole is going to be staying out in Yuma, Arizona, she wants to find an apartment. But, there's one thing that stops her from being able to get one...money (-$8.99 in her bank account). Time to find a job in Yuma too. So as my faithful website companion, google, we head to that to search for one. Oh and we also start to awSsearch for apartments. A note from Nicole: Don't fill out anything about needing a moving company, they will call you non-stop.

The search is just beginning, so obviously as time goes on we'll keep you updated.

Planning the drive

So, The driving time from Poughkeepsie, New York to Yuma, Arizona according to MapQuest is 1 day 17 hours and 4 minutes. Nicole's and my drive time estimate is about 1 day 10 hours and 2 minutes, that is without getting pulled over for speeding, *fingers crossed*. And if I don't drink all the water and Nicole doesn't drink alot of sweet tea, we could cut another hour or two out of bathroom stops, because I always have to pee whenever i talk to her for some reason.
While looking at MapQuest we noticed that there was a calculate fuel cost. We decided to try it out...The average MPG we guessed is 22, which than equals around $350 of gas, we are sooooo screwed since we have about $200 in cash and $30 in coins. We also have some speeding tickets we have to pay for. Between the two of us a total of 4 in less than a month. Oops.
We also have one issue about driving straight through. I mean Nicole and I are perfectly fine driving it straight because Nicole is wide awake driving throughout the day time and I can drive nights no problem, as long as we have some good CD's made (which we will because half of them are going to be DJ AM). The problem is our parents. They always gotta look out for our saftey. So we came up with a plan. We'll tell them what states we're going to stop in to "stay the night and sleep in a motel". Will we actually do it? Yea rightttttt.
So we planned out what states we'll be having a sleep over in.
First sleeping stop: Indiana, 12 hours into the drive and 28 to go. As Nicole stated, "My dad would be very thrilled that we would be stopping in Indiana because of his favorite team, the Colts." (Boooo, Go Giants :p)
Second stop: Ten gallon hats here we come, Texas. From Indiana to Texas, it's a 15 hour drive. That would leave us with 13 hours left of driving till I'm back in Jamie's arms forever and convincing Nicole to stay out there.
Third and final stop: YUMA ARIZONA (well I could care less about that, for me the final stop is Jamie's arms :) )

So far that's our planning of the drive, oh and if you know our parental units...shhhh we're stopping in those states to get some shut eye.

Why a road trip?

Nicole and I are heading to Yuma, Arizona for the summer, well her for the summer, me forever. But why Yuma, Arizona when we live in a small town in New York called Poughkeepsie that no one has really ever heard of? Well my boyfriend Jamie (who is the love of my life) lives there and not being with him sucks. All 3 of us, Nicole, Jamie, and I are all best friends. I wouldn't want to be stuck in a car for a long time with anyone else but those two, well nicole mostly :p.

May 14, 2010 is the last day of test and classes for the spring semester of college for Nicole and I, so we decided not to waste anytime and leave the second we both get out of class. So at 10:30am on May 14th is when we begin our road trip to the place we'll be spending a long time (I'm going to convince Nicole to live in Yuma, AZ too because I'd miss her way to much).
